Biography

Cody Edgerton is the Assistant Director of Bands at the University of Southern Mississippi and Associate Director of the "Pride of Mississippi" Marching Band. Cody conducts the Concert Band, University Band, and Pep Band, and he has served as guest conductor for Symphonic Winds and Wind Ensemble. Cody also teaches courses in Instrumental Conducting, Marching Band Methods, and Wind Band Literature.
 
Throughout the past decade, Cody held positions ranging from 6-12th grade instrumental music to collegiate wind bands at schools and universities both big and small. Cody has conducted a wide variety of public-school and collegiate wind band ensembles, including all levels of concert bands, non-major campus bands, chamber wind ensembles, contemporary music ensembles, and university-based high school honor bands. Cody has served as guest clinician and guest conductor at schools and music events throughout the state and region.

Cody is also highly involved in athletic bands, and he has led major university marching bands, pep bands, and competitive high-school marching bands. Cody writes drill and arranges music, and his work has been performed in halftime shows and at various sporting events at Division I athletic institutions.
 
Cody has attended numerous conducting symposia and presented at both regional and national music conferences, including College Band Directors National Association National Conference and Midwest Clinic in 2023. In 2021, Cody published original research on the topic of diversity in wind band literature. In 2023, Cody transcribed and published a song cycle by Caroline Shaw for solo mezzo-soprano and wind band, entitled Is A Rose. 
 
Cody attended Michigan State University for a Doctor of Music in Wind Conducting, and Western Michigan University for a Master of Music in Wind Conducting. He also served as the assistant band director at Grandville High School in Grandville, Michigan, and as the middle and high school band director for Elk Rapids Schools in Elk Rapids, Michigan. Cody holds a Bachelor’s in Music Education from Michigan State University, where he performed with the MSU Wind Symphony, MSU Spartan Marching Band, and the MSU Percussion Ensemble. Cody also marched two summers with the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps. He is originally from Charlotte, Michigan.
